Traditional Chinese Medicine
It is a healing system based on acupuncture, acupressure, herbal medicine, massage and emphasis on exercise, nutrition and healthy living that has been used for at least five thousand years. Chinese medicine is comprised of the concept of Qi, meaning "energy flow" and certain factors such as climate, emotions, diet and lifestyle can cause an imbalance between Ying and Yang which can be restored by acupuncture and herbal medicine. TCM is not aggressive or invasive and very minimal side effects. Long term application would increase the body's immune capacity and healthy life is enjoyed. TCM can be described as "healing for the people by the people". It is believed that this form of medicine has been practiced for as long as humans have been on this planet. The fact is that modern medicine evolved from traditional medicine. You may wonder why has TCM survived for so long and why it is thriving in spite of the powerful influence of modern medicine. Traditional healing art has survived because it is based on empirical evidence, i.e. people have observed that it is effective although they have no theory to explain why it works but they know it works.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a unique therapeutic method that treats ailments by inserting hair thin, sterile disposable needles into the skin. It promotes smooth circulation of Qi and blood by stimulating these points and meridians. Chinese medicine delinates fourteen meridians and numerous associated collateral branches in the human body. There are 361 acupuncture points distributed along the 14 meridians. Because the needles are so thin, the sensation is quite mild and nearly all patients feel a significant level of relaxation and may even fall asleep during treatment. Patients may feel a heightened sense of well being after treatment which may last for several days.
